The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is committed to providing accessible information and communication technology (ICT) to members of the public, including individuals with disabilities.
The Presidential Fitness School Innovation Challenge website (Fitness.gov) is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience and to providing comparable access to information, programs, and services.
Section 508
Fitness.gov is operated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is subject to applicable federal accessibility requirements, including Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.
Section 508 requires federal agencies to ensure that individuals with disabilities have access to and use of information and communication technology that is comparable to the access and use available to individuals without disabilities.
HHS applies Section 508 requirements and digital accessibility best practices to information and communication technology developed, procured, maintained, funded, or used by the Department. HHS also uses the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as part of its digital accessibility requirements.
Our Accessibility Commitment
We are working to make Fitness.gov accessible to individuals with a wide range of disabilities and to support the use of assistive technologies.
Our accessibility efforts include, as applicable:
- Providing meaningful alternative text for images and other non-text content;
- Using appropriate headings and page structure;
- Providing accessible forms and form controls;
- Supporting keyboard navigation;
- Providing sufficient color contrast;
- Using descriptive link and button labels;
- Supporting screen readers and other assistive technologies;
- Providing captions or other accessible alternatives for applicable multimedia content;
- Providing accessible documents and downloadable resources where applicable;
- Avoiding unnecessary accessibility barriers in interactive content; and
- Testing and improving the accessibility of the website as part of ongoing website maintenance and development.
HHS identifies WCAG Levels A and AA as part of its digital accessibility requirements, in addition to other applicable Section 508 requirements.
Accessibility of Documents and Other Content
We are committed to making documents, forms, images, videos, and other digital content available in accessible formats.
Some older documents or third-party content may not yet fully meet current accessibility requirements. When this occurs, we will work to provide an accessible alternative or otherwise assist individuals in obtaining the information they need.
Third-Party Content
Fitness.gov may contain links to websites, applications, documents, or services operated by other government agencies or third parties.
While we strive to provide accessible links and resources, we do not control the accessibility of external websites or services.
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on an external website, please contact the organization responsible for that website.
Accessibility Assistance
If you have difficulty accessing any content, feature, form, document, or service on Fitness.gov, please let us know.
When reporting an accessibility issue, please provide, if possible:
- The web address (URL) of the page where you encountered the problem;
- A description of the accessibility barrier;
- The type of assistive technology or browser you were using, if relevant; and
- Your contact information if you would like us to respond to you.
This information helps us identify and address accessibility issues more efficiently.

Reasonable Accommodations and Auxiliary Aids
HHS is committed to providing individuals with disabilities equal or comparable access to information, programs, and services.
Where appropriate and required by applicable law, HHS may provide reasonable modifications, auxiliary aids, or alternative means of accessing information to ensure individuals with disabilities have an equal opportunity to participate in or benefit from applicable programs and services.
Accessibility Complaints
If you believe that you have experienced discrimination on the basis of disability in connection with an HHS program or activity, you may have the right to file a complaint under applicable federal civil rights laws.
HHS’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces applicable disability discrimination protections, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and other federal civil rights laws within its jurisdiction.

Continuous Improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing process. We periodically review and improve Fitness.gov to identify and address accessibility barriers.
We welcome feedback from users with disabilities and users of assistive technologies. Accessibility feedback helps us improve the website and provide a better experience for everyone.
