General Information

What is the primary goal of the Challenge? +
The goal of the Challenge is to spur innovation, create positive experiences around physical fitness, and identify approaches to help expand Presidential Fitness Test (PFT) participation nationwide.
Do we need to have a brand-new program to enter? +
No. Participants may incorporate the PFT into an existing physical activity, fitness, or youth-serving program, or they can choose to launch a new approach as the basis for their Challenge submission.

Eligibility

Who is eligible to submit an application for the challenge? / Who is eligible to participate in the challenge? +
The challenge is open to individual schools, school districts, and youth-serving organizations. Eligible entities may include public, charter, private, parochial, Tribal, alternative, and other recognized schools; school districts and local/State educational agencies; nonprofit organizations; community-based and faith-based organizations; libraries, museums, and cultural institutions; parks and recreation programs; and youth clubs and associations. For-profit businesses and commercial entities are not eligible.

Challenge Tracks

Can a school or youth serving organization submit to both tracks? / Can a team/lead submit more than one submission? +

Yes, an organization may submit to both tracks. However, each submission must independently satisfy that track’s specific requirements, and submitting the exact same narrative to both tracks will not be accepted.

How do we choose between tracks? +

You should choose the track that best matches what you want to demonstrate:

  • Track 1 (PFT Implementation & Innovation): This track is best for schools, districts, and youth-serving organizations that have put a PFT approach into practice with students and can demonstrate its potential to be sustained, replicated, or expanded. It requires an evidence-based implementation narrative.
  • Track 2 (PFT Participation & Equipment): This track is best for schools and organizations that are administering the PFT, engaging students in physical activity, and want fitness/sports equipment to support continued participation and fitness improvement. It requires a simpler participation submission.

Prizes and Awards

What kind of prizes can my organization win? +

Winning organizations can compete for two types of rewards based on their selected track:

  • PFT Implementation & Innovation: Winning organizations receive Implementation Funding in the form of cash prizes to help reach more students, address barriers, or sustain and expand the work over time. Prizes are distributed from a $7,000,000 pool and range from $20,000 up to a $1,000,000 Grand Prize depending on the student population tier.
  • PFT Participation & Equipment: Winning organizations receive PFT Prizes in the form of redemption codes for fitness and sports equipment to sustain student engagement.
